Day 17 - June 27 - San Francisco - Pacifica. We are now at a very nice place Holiday Inn Express. The staff, KD (Kundun) and Maria have been so helpful to get around and make us comfortable. The beach looked good, but had some "issues." It was very sandy, rocky and cold water. The water had strong currents. Diego and another boy about his age tried to stand in water about knee deep. When one of the big waves came in, it was strong enough to pull them off their feet. The boy asked Diego to help. Diego signaled me that the boy needed help. Luckily a surfer who had on a wet suit and knew what to do, swam to the boy and away from the bad current.
We all feel lucky for the boy and thanked the man for his quick action.
After, we looked at a couple of dead seals on the beach. They didn't look nice. We couldn't find out what happened to them like the seal at Santa Cruz. That seal had fishing string wrapped around his body which made it difficult to swim.
We then climbed part of the big hill next to the beach, A very nice view of the water, waves and beach people.
For dinner, we went to Nick's Restaurant. Papa and Nana ate there about 10 years ago and wondered if the food was still as good? Papa had the favorite - a crab and tomato sandwich. Nana had fish and chips. I had some delicious spaghetti. They tried to sneak in some mushrooms, but I gave them to Papa.
We the took a walk along the beach and saw some whales who were coming to the top to clean their blow holes. We could see big streams of steam going in the air - WOW :-)
We finished a nice day with ice cream cones - what a deal. One scoop is $2.99 an dan extra for only 50 cents more.
Tomorrow we investigate the tide pools that were covered by the high tide.
